Larry’s Powder Alert – March 30, 2015

Powder Alert
Lower snow levels and increasing snow.

Larry Schick Cyrstal 2.21.14The first in a series of storms will move in overnight. Snow level will lower to 3000ft with 1-4″ new byTuesday morning, with an additional 5-9″ of snow byWednesday. A convergence zone(CZ) will form and produce additional snow at Stevens and the Summit (add 4-8″ with CZ)

There will be some breaks at times, but the cooler air is here to stay until Sunday. The snow level will range from 2500 ft – 4000 ft as several storms move through, with a break Thursday.

Total snowfall (Tuesday – Sunday) will be 8″ – 20″, favoring the higher elevations and central Cascades convergence zone. But, for a change, all elevations will get snow. A comeback? Or too little too late? Don’t know yet, but it’s getting late in the season. Late season and warm ocean temps do not support a comeback, but weather maps are favorable in the short term.

Lower slopes are starting with no snow, so we’ll see if this is enough. The snowfall could bring medium elevation slopes back to life. Upper slopes will greatly benefit. Crystal and White have good potential – Wednesday/Thursday. Watch for Stevens to give serious thought about re-opening if CZ gets cranking. Baker will be considering it. Mission on Friday is looking favorable.

Please call or check online regarding ski area operations. Some areas are closed. Others have limited days, hours and limited terrain or are changing operations daily with this changing & improving forecast.
