We’re on our way, and it’s only October.

Hello NW skiers and snowboarders,
Here we go!
Expect new snow at most ski areas starting tonight into Sunday as a weather front moves through the Pacific Northwest with cooler temperatures.
Initially, the snow levels will be high, with snow mainly on the upper slopes 6,000–8,000 ft, but lowering to 4,000–5,000 ft by Sunday. Total snowfall: 1–4" lower slopes, 2–6"+ upper slopes by later Sunday. The convergence zone may focus heavier snowfall into Baker, Stevens, and The Summit.
BTW, Whistler will get a foot or more at the Roundhouse with 1–3 ft in the alpine upper bowls — including deeply drifting snow near the upper ridges.
Most of the week will be dry.
However, I am very optimistic about a robust, multi-storm weather pattern next Friday, Oct 24 through Monday.
Details are uncertain right now, but expect moderate snow levels (~5,000 ft) and 6–12"+ snowfall on the upper elevations.
The North Cascades and BC will be especially hard hit.
Whistler could see several additional feet in the alpine for next weekend’s storminess.
I’ve seen them open with much less — but it’s rare for a ski area to open this early due to contracts, insurance, and staffing.
Every storm builds the snowpack and the stoke.
We’re on our way, and it’s only October.
Your Grand Poobah,
Larry Schick, Meteorologist
