Hello Skiers and Snowboarders,

Short-Term Forecast

On Thursday, an area of low pressure will move in late in the day bringing an increase in clouds. Thursday night, we might get some light snow, but that's more likely on Friday. The best chance of snow will be at the mid to upper slopes with 4 to 8" (map 1). With cold trapped in much of Eastern Washington, 49 Degrees North and Silver Mountain will get snow at the lower slopes.

Friday morning, with cold air trapped in Eastern Washington, the easterly winds will drag some of this cooler air to Snoqualmie Pass and to a lesser extent Stevens. Expect a wintry mix of rain-freezing / rain-snow at times at the pass levels on Friday. This should not be the case late Friday and into the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to have snow (2 - 4') for the mid-to-upper slopes. Snow levels will bounce around over the weekend from 4000 to 5500' at times. Sunday, Mt Baker will be looking at 6 to 10."

Snow and Weather Summary

  • Thursday: Dusting of snow for the evening

  • Friday: 4" to 8" for mid to upper slopes

  • Saturday: 2" to 4" for mid to upper slopes

  • Sunday: 2" to 4" for mid to upper slopes, more for Mt. Baker

Extended Outlook:

Monday, Jan. 5 to Wednesday, Jan. 7

We are expecting light snowfall over the period (next map), with snow levels close to 4000' at times.

We said before that winter has just begun, and here is some interesting data. The Hyak Ski Area (2800') on average receives 70% of its winter snowfall from January through April.

We will have our next update on Sunday, Jan. 4.

P.S. Sunday forecasts will go out in the afternoon during January and February. Andrea will be on snow, teaching the next generation of skiers (the 3-year-olds).
