DAILY DOSE OF DAYDREAM - 1/4/22 at Summit Central

Snow will happen...we just need to hurry up and wait.
Snow will happen...we just need to hurry up and wait.

Hello skiers and snowboarders,

Short Term Forecast

We will continue with an active storm track over our region with moderate to heavy precipitation through Thursday. This is due to the moisture-laden Atmospheric River aimed at the Pacific Northwest.

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that on Wednesday, much of the Cascades will get 8 to 12" of snow at 4500 feet. This is highlighted in the first map.

  • Bad news is that much of the time; we can expect rainfall as the snow levels vary from 4000 to 7000 feet at times.

  • Rain. From Sunday morning to Thursday afternoon. See the second map showing cumulative precipitation.

  • We are expecting 10" of precipitation over the period for much of the West Cascades from Stevens Pass south to Crystal Mountain.

If this were all snow, that would equate to about 100" of snow.

The bottom line for Monday through Thursday we will have a rain/snow mix, with the mid-slopes and upper-slopes getting snow at times.

Snow Highlights

  • Monday: 10' plus for upper-slopes

  • Tuesday: 4" mid-slopes and 10" plus for upper-slopes

  • Wednesday: 8" to 12" for mid-slopes and upper-slopes

  • Thursday: Upper-slopes 6" except Baker up to 6" and 4" for 49 Degrees North and Silver Mountain.

 Slopes - Elevation General Guidelines

  • Lower Slopes - Under 4000'

  • Mid-Slopes - 4000 to 5500'

  • Upper-Slopes - Above 5500'

Slope Stories: Celebrating the People Who Shape Our Mountain Community

If you missed last week’s Slope Story, meet George Heinrich — 93 years old and still ripping. From skiing his village in Czechoslovakia to escaping Soviet rule to making turns at Stevens and Whistler, he’s a master class in aging with strength and stoke.

Or share the story of someone who inspired you.

Top photo: Tues, Jan 4. Summit Central.

I had the mountain practically to myself thanks to I-90 closures and power outages — but only got two runs in before the powder outage shut everything down.

  • Mon, 1/3 WSDOT recorded 19" snowfall. Photo from the chair is Tues am.

  • From Mon 1/3/2022 to Sat, 1/8/2022 the total recorded was 75"
