Hello skiers and snowboarders,
We will continue with cool and dry conditions at least Wednesday, so keep those layers on. See table #1 of temperatures for Stampede Pass, at 4000' just SE of Snoqualmie Pass.
Monday morning we’ll have gusty winds, especially at Snoqualmie Pass, with winds at 20 mph and 20 F degrees. Looking at the wind chill chart, that will feel like 4 degrees on exposed skin. Monday, there will be gusty winds for other ski resorts for mid to upper slopes. These winds should subside some on Monday afternoon.
Enjoy groomed runs and soak up some sun at times. The snow depth at several resorts is still above average.
Crystal Mountain is at 116%
White Pass is at 127% of average
Snoqualmie Pass is at 76%
Stevens at 80%.

EXTENDED: 1-23 to 1-28
Most forecasts are continuing the dry pattern for the West Coast. The first map is cumulative precipitation through 1-28 and you can see the dry pattern. However, several models bring maybe 1" of snow this Thursday.
The main reason for this continued dry pattern is the strong ridge of high pressure in place, which is shown in the map #2. The ridge of high pressure tends to block or steer wet weather out of our region. That is what is set up now. The trough of low pressure on map #2 is where the very cold air is anchored. Here is a good explanation of ridges of high pressure and troughs of low pressure.
BOTTOM LINE: the forecast models continue with the mostly dry pattern over the NW during this period.
GOOD NEWS: we get to ski in sunny conditions and with the dry and cold weather the snowpack should continue to hold.
RETURN OF SNOW: We still have La Niña conditions in place. We all know that this pattern tilts the odds for below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation and snowpack. The Climate Prediction Center indicates these La Niña conditions should persist through the end of winter.
Next update on Thursday.
P.S. 🏔️ There's a place for everyone, but we can't cover every place in every Powder Alert. For conditions and forecasts at your resort, please check their official website.
