Dry January. Is there any snow in the forecast?

Hello skiers and snowboarders,

We will continue under a strong ridge of high pressure through the weekend. So we are expecting cold and dry conditions. The good news is that we will have some sun breaks at times, especially for the mid and upper slopes. Just bundle up, especially if you are getting an early start. Sunday morning lows at Stampede Pass (at 4000' SE of Snoqualmie Pass) will be 15 F. The map below reflects this. Some models even suggest slightly lower morning temperatures. The wind chill when the air temperature is 15 degrees, with a 10 mph wind on exposed skin feels like 2.7 degrees F.

 See our extended outlook below.

  • Friday to Sunday: 0 snow

  • Sun Breaks

  • Sunday: Cold temps

Cold temps at Snoqualmie Pass

Extended Outlook: Monday 1-19 to Friday 1-24

The map below is cumulative snow through Thursday. Sadly there is only a trace,. if any, for the Washington Cascades. Oregon and California have no snow. Forecast models have been extremely consistent that a strong ridge of high pressure at the surface and aloft will be anchored over the West Coast. The resultant weather is little if any snow for the West Coast.

A frequent question we have been getting recently is whether there is any snow in the forecast. Forecast models are finally suggesting some snow later on Friday or Saturday. We will update you this coming Sunday and hope to provide some good snow news.

FEBRUARY

Yes, February is right around the corner and the map below shows an optimistic snow forecast for much of Washington and Oregon. The green colors indicate the snowfall will be above normal. This forecast is from several very dependable European-based forecast models. This is certainly an extended outlook, however, with La Nina conditions still occurring this outlook would make sense. Stay tuned.
