Hello Skiers and Snowboarders,

Short-Term Forecast

Friday and Saturday will be great days to hit the slopes!! Many resorts received over 20" of snow (cumulative) on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be another 2 to 3" today.

Friday morning, we expect several inches in the morning with some afternoon sun breaks. Snoqualmie Pass: since WSDOT (on 1/8) shows rain, Andrea asked for more info. From about 1am - 8 am very light snow (1"). After 8 am it warms up but looks mostly dry. If there is precipitation, then rain/snow mix on the lower slopes, but minimal if any.

Saturday will bring freezing levels up to 7000' with morning sun breaks. There will be an increase in clouds during the afternoon, and, as the map indicates, the best chance of precipitation is for the late afternoon near Mt. Baker. Thus, most of the other ski resorts will be dry on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday expect moderate to heavy precipitation. With snow levels close to 6000', most resorts will receive moderate rain on most slopes. The only exception is Mt Baker, which might get some snow for the upper slopes. Also, the inland areas like 49 Degrees North and Silver Mt will have lower snow levels of 4000 to 5000'.

Snow and Weather Summary

  • Friday: Up to 2" in the morning, afternoon sun breaks

  • Saturday: Sun breaks early with an increase in clouds

  • Sunday: Rain for most areas, except the upper slopes of Baker, and light snow for the mid and upper slopes for 49 Degrees North and Silver Mt.

Extended Outlook:

Monday, Jan. 12 to Wednesday, Jan. 13

Expecting rain on Monday for most slopes except Mt. Baker will get snow for the mid and upper slopes. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first map shows a very strong ridge of high pressure building at 18,000 and at the surface. The net result of this pattern is dry conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday, and warming. The second map shows that much above-average temperatures can be expected. Some models suggest freezing levels up to 8000 to 9000' by Wednesday.

Next update on Sunday, January 11.
