DAILY DOSE OF DAYDREAM

Skiing the Monashee Range with Mike Wiegele.

Hello Skiers and Snowboarders,

Short-Term Forecast

Sunday will bring rain early in the day. However, during the day, a cold front will move in and drop snow levels to 3000' during the afternoon and 2000' by the evening. Snowfall amounts will be tricky given the snow levels dropping during the day.

Monday and Tuesday, we are expecting snow with levels at 1000 to 2000' and at times lower.

Monday, expect 4 to 6".

Tuesday expect 3 to 5".

Tuesday, we are expecting higher totals near Stevens Pass and north to Mt. Baker.

Want more snow? Check out the extended outlook.

Snow and Weather Summary

  • Sunday: 1 to 2" in the afternoon, more at mid to upper slopes

  • Monday: 4 to 6"

  • Tuesday: 3 to 5"

Slopes: Elevation General Guidelines

  • Lower Slopes - Under 4000'

  • Mid-Slopes - 4000 to 5500'

  • Upper-Slopes - Above 5500'

Extended Outlook: Wed, March 11 to Fri, March 13

I am usually very reluctant to put snow totals in the extended outlook, but models seem to agree.

The map depicts cumulative snow from Monday, 3-9 to Friday, 3-13, with 38" for many locations in the Cascades at 3000.'

Some locations at 4000' and areas near Mt Baker could easily have 50" over this period.

All forecast models agree with an active storm track over this period, with snow levels close to 3000.' The best chance of heavy snow and windy conditions will be on Wednesday, so visibility might be a challenge.

Next update will be from Larry on Thursday, March 12.

Interior B.C Resorts

Many of the Interior B.C. resorts are located in the Upper Columbia Basin. This basin's snowpack, for the most part, is average (green) to above average (blue). The Upper Columbia Basin snowpack is significantly higher than that of the resorts in Washington and Oregon.
