DAILY DOSE OF DAYDREAM

Hello Skiers and Snowboarders,

Short-Term Forecast

Wow! As promised, snow is dumping in the Cascades and there is much more snowfall to come - as in several feet.

Late this Wednesday afternoon the winds have been increasing, and temperatures are nudging upward as snowfall continues. This atmospheric river (AR) pulse is causing the brief warming this evening, with snow levels up to 4,000-5,000 ft. Again, it’s temporary warmth, for only six hours. By 11 pm tonight the snow levels will start to drop.

Thursday snow levels will be near 1,500 ft. for fantastic quality snow. The wind will drop too as the AR slides south, but remain a bit breezy. Be careful of deep snowdrifts and tree wells. Watch for snow on the roads, lift closures and closed runs as the storm continues. Beyond the ropes will be dangerous.

I was skiing along the ridgetops at Whistler early afternoon (Wednesday) and it was very rough - real blizzard conditions. Skiing the mid and lower slopes was great – but sometimes with poor visibility. The new snow really filled the mountain thin spots and improved conditions. The heaviest snowfall now is aimed at the central and southern Cascades (Summit, Crystal, White). Convergence zone may favor Stevens later Thursday.

And the snowfall is not over on Thursday. More to come on Friday

Here is what I expect:

  • Thursday – Powder Alert! Great ski day, 5-12” new when you get there. Expect snow all day with 4-9” during the day.  SL: 1,000-2,000ft – That means quality!

  • Thursday night: 8-14” SL: 1,500 ft

  • Friday: Powder Alert! - Full on powder days continue - see overnight snow above when you arrive, SL: 2,000 ft. Another epic day. More snowfall through the day - free refills. – 3-6”

  • Saturday: new snow (2-6” ) when you arrive - partial clearing – lots of great leftovers – rip a groomer

  • Sunday: fabulous groomer morning – snow/rain late in the day?

Enjoy the new snow – best of the winter!
