Hello from Larry!

I had two wonderful days skiing in the spring sunshine at Crystal last Thursday and Friday. Coverage remains good, with very few thin spots on the main slopes. Zipping the groomers was fantastic. Thank you Crystal Mountain groomers. Off-piste was a mixed bag, be cautious, with thin spots. I did a short hike to the well covered north side of Snorting Elk Bowl (facing SE), with 1” new on Thursday and that was really a rip-roaring time, with sweeping flying turns. Spring skiing is so much fun with good light and warmer weather. Check the schedule, but Crystal has just extended their season to Sunday 26th of April – go for it.
Despite our snow difficulties, Washington has done much better than Colo, Utah and Tahoe. Those areas were dismal, some of the worst ever.
I’ll have a more detailed look at this season and the possible upcoming super El Nino of next season.
Thanks to the crew at Crystal Hotels, I did an overnighter. It’s so nice to get up and just go ski in the morning – no drive! The food and fun at the Snorting Elk is always excellent – try the goulash or curry or pizza. Also, the best carrot cake ever!
I was skiing a couple of weeks ago at Whistler for a week. It was pretty good too and fully covered – skied top to bottom many times. Both Whistler and Blackcomb will be open until mid-April, then Blackcomb side only until mid-May.

Check their website for details. Another fav of mine for late season skiing is Mt Bachelor in Oregon. They will be open to mid-May. If you are really ambitious, Mammoth Mountain in the southern Sierra is open until late May – that is a great mountain and bring your sunscreen!
More to come with season wrap up later in April or May.
