Snow now, up to 20 inches! Rain later—Bluebird days ahead! ❄️🌦️☀️

Hello skiers and snowboarders,

We will have a very active weather pattern through the weekend. We are expecting moderate snow for Thursday through Saturday. Snow levels will bounce around with the mid to upper slopes expecting up to 20" through this period.

These totals can be expected for Western Washington ski resorts: Mt Baker, Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, and Crystal Mountain. We should also have some snow for the lower slopes, but less than what we get for the mid-slopes.

The Eastern Washington resorts like 49 Degrees North and Silver Mt. will be looking at 10" for the lower slopes. The map below reflects these snow totals for the Northwest.

Sunday we will start to see some warming during the day, so much of the lower to mid-slopes will have rain for the Western Washington resorts. Some models suggest 1 to 2" of rain. However, 49 Degrees North and Silver Mt will be much cooler and drier and get some light snow at the mid to upper slopes.

Friday and Saturday will make for great days to enjoy the new snow!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Friday - 4 to 8"

  • Saturday - 4 to 8"

  • Sunday - Rain likely for lower and mid-slopes

Slopes- Elevation General Guidelines

  • Lower Slopes - Under 4000'

  • Mid-Slopes - 4000 to 5500'

  • Upper-Slopes - Above 5500'

The map below is cumulative snowfall from Thursday, March 20 through the afternoon of Saturday, March 22, showing up to 20" for the mid to upper-slopes (above 4000').

Extended Outlook: March 24 to March 29

Tues-Wed, we are expecting a ridge of high pressure to build, bringing warmer and sunny conditions. This will mean great spring skiing with highs in the mid-50s. Freezing levels increase to 10,000' on these days which is reflected in the map below.

Make sure you check out the Northwest Avalanche Center forecasts. The recent new snow and warming conditions can bring unstable snow conditions. Good time to enjoy all the inbounds skiing at our local resorts.

Starting Thursday and continuing into Friday cooler weather moves in, reflected in the second map below. We will update you this Sunday if any new snow is coming our way.

MAP 1: shows freezing levels close to 10,000' on Wednesday, March 26.

MAP 2: has freezing levels close to 5000' by Friday, March 28.

RESORT REVIEW: I spent Monday skiing 49 Degrees North, a long-time sponsor, for a reason. It's a cool place to be and a Washington hidden gem. An easy drive from Seattle. Long runs, fun tree areas, and no crowds. It’s an ideal mountain for all levels. This was my second time visiting, and I love it even more now.

Andrea

Road trip idea: visit Silver Mountain, 49 Degrees, then Red Mountain with an option for a visit to Schweitzer.
